Buy and inspect through a trusted channel
Use the manufacturer’s official distribution guidance and check the device and package for signs of tampering. Download firmware and companion software only from the official domain. A support agent should never need your recovery phrase.
Create and verify the backup
Initialize the device yourself and write the recovery phrase offline, in the order shown. Never photograph or paste it into a phone or cloud service. If the device offers a backup check, complete it before receiving funds; a backup you have not tested is an assumption.
Make a small test
- Confirm the device model, firmware and official application.
- Receive a small amount, disconnect, restore or verify according to the manufacturer’s documented process.
- Store the device, backup and PIN in separate access-controlled locations.
