Gas measures computation
Ethereum charges gas for computation and storage work. A transaction specifies a gas limit, while the fee market sets a price per unit. The total cost depends on the gas used and the fee parameters accepted by the network at that moment.
An estimate is not a quote
Wallet estimates use current conditions and the transaction’s requested action. A complex contract call may consume more gas than a simple transfer. A failed call can still consume gas because the network performed the computation before reverting the state change.
Review the request
- Confirm the network and fee currency.
- Compare the gas limit and max fee with the action you intend to take.
- Avoid signing a request that asks for an unlimited allowance without a clear reason.
