Assets and liabilities are different
A reserve attestation or Merkle-tree presentation may show control of selected assets at a point in time. It may not show all liabilities, encumbered assets, internal controls or what happens during a withdrawal rush. Read the scope, date, methodology and assurance level.
Ask about the boundary
Find out whether customer balances are included, how negative balances are handled, and whether the report covers the legal entity you use. A third-party label is useful only when its procedures and limitations are public.
Keep custody decisions separate
- Treat a reserve report as one input, not a guarantee.
- Review withdrawal controls, incident history and legal terms.
- Use a balance and access plan that does not depend on a single intermediary.
